Experiences From the Flow (24): the Ex Returns! Part 2

Carl Pantejo asked:

“It was a weird dream.

I am in bed with Nueng. Her face is nestled into my shoulder and her arm is draped over my chest.

She looks like a sleeping angel – mine, my special, lovely angel.

I inhale deeply, smile, and silently thank God for all the joy she has brought into my life. I smell her hair and the sweet fragrance makes me feel loved, safe, and secure.

Like an experienced ground fighter, Nueng has strategically wrapped a leg behind and around one of mine. (Even in her sleep, she’s afraid of me leaving her.)

Then I hear it.

It sounds like…like…no, it can’t be!

It sounds like the voice of my ex-girlfriend! She’s coming up the stairs, calling out to me, AND I REALIZE THAT THIS IS NOT A DREAM!”

*Below is the twenty-fourth installment in a series of real life events experienced by the author. The only deviations from the truth may be the names of people and places. These stories are also incorporated in “My Friend Yu – the Prosperity Mentor: Book II,” Pantejo - Y.N. Vurce Publishing. Release Date: 2008.

- Dramas -

Upstairs, in my bedroom and half asleep, I hear someone slip a key into the front door. The door creaks open (I always seem to forget to oil the hinges of that thing). I assume the person I hear entering my townhouse is my sister coming home from the open market where she sells clothes and second-hand items.

But then the sound of a voice puts me on instant alert.

It’s the unmistakable, girlish voice of my Ex-girlfriend (Kai)!

“J.C.! J.C., tee rak (darling)! J.C? Tee rak, kid tueng yu khun maak maak (Darling, I missed you so much)!”

I close my eyes again and listen more intently, hoping that this was not happening, maybe just a bad dream.

But the footsteps on the stairs confirm the worst. They are definitely the awkward, “stutter-steps” of Kai. (She was never the most graceful of women).

To prevent constant stumbling, she basically stomped her way through life. It was always an amusing sight to see her walk in her favorite high-heeled shoes (kind of like watching a spinning top wobbling as it begins to slow down).

- Locked Doors, Open Doors -

I had forgotten about the spare house key I kept amongst the shoes in a shoe rack outside the front door. The Ex didn’t. She had used it to “quietly” enter my townhouse and “surprise” me with her return.

By this time, Nueng was awake and knew what was going on. She put a finger to my lips and whispered “Shhhh…Reo, reo (fast, quickly)!”

Nueng wanted me to exit the bedroom before Kai reached the top of the stairs and “accidentally” lock the door behind me. Even under the most extreme circumstances, Nueng was always level-headed.

Damn! Why didn’t I move out of this townhouse when I decided to cut all ties with the Ex?

I had permanently written Kai out of my life over six months ago.

Nueng and I should’ve found another place, a secret place no one knew of (meaning her ex-husband and my ex-girlfriends), to genuinely start anew.

- Who Cares? -

Nueng, my sweet and strong Nueng.

She was the most honest and caring woman I’ve met in Thailand. I remember when the running water had stopped in our townhouse and we were tired and grimy from spending the day outside.

Without a fuss, Nueng grabbed some empty, six-liter drinking water containers, hopped on my motorcycle, and sped off to fill them up at the drinking water machine.

Upon returning, she then dumped the water into the large, black rubbish bin we used to store water.

When I offered to help, she just sniff-kissed my neck and told me to “Abp narm, tee-rak (bathe now, darling),” then sped off to get more water.

In short, she cares. She REALLY cares.

And I knew that it was my laziness (and stupidity) that has put us in this current situation.

- Same, Same? -

I kissed Nueng, whispered “Rak khun kon deos (I love you, only you), and quickly pulled on some shorts. Exiting the bedroom, I entered the upstairs hallway; locking the bedroom door behind me.

Double-timing it to the top of the stairs, I saw Kai.

I intercepted her on the small landing half-way up the stairs. As I looked at her, I didn’t really know how to feel.

Definitely, I was in shock.

It was as though all the feelings of rage, confusion, and despair I’d experienced during my discovery of her lies and infidelity were being painfully resurrected again.

The acidic emotions were beginning to reach my stomach (via my throat and heart).

It was like the reflexive shock, gasp, and searing pain you get when you accidentally gulp down some burning, hot coffee.

Apparently, Kai didn’t notice any hints of my inner turmoil. I guess she assumed that my expressionless, lukewarm demeanor was another one of those mysterious (translated: stupid) “Farang (foreinger) Things.”

She smiles her trademark, dazzling smile and hands me a belated Christmas gift (a small stuffed toy).

Wrapping her arms around me, she kisses me; then buries her head into my shoulder and says, “Me-lee Klees-mah (her attempt at saying Merry Christmas in English), tee rak. Chan rak khun (I love you).”

Uncomfortably, I accepted her gift and returned her embrace – ALL THE WHILE THINKING OF NUENG HIDING IN MY BEDROOM!”

As I held Kai, my only thoughts were:

“Wow. I don’t remember Kai being this small before. She feels so fragile! Nueng is so different, better. No matter how hard I hug Nueng, she can always hug me back harder.”

Then situational awareness returned and I led Kai by the hand back down the stairs, saying that we need to talk outside.

My plan was to take her out on the front porch, sit down, and ask her why she returned.

Of course, I pretty much knew already. In my mind, the scenario had been firmly formed:

1.Her “suicidal” boyfriend probably ran out of money.

2.Profoundly wise to her “money management habits,” I knew that she most surely was broke too.

3.Her more convenient cash cows were now unavailable or unwilling to be scammed again.

4.She probably thought she could easily convince me to take her back (until she could find something/someone better – again).

It’s always the same with her. It’s always about the money!

- She Knows! -

We finally reached the first floor. But to my surprise, Kai ignored all my requests to go outside, picked up her suitcase and charged back up the stairs!

It was then that “I knew that she knew.”

I attempted to stop her at the landing, she shrugged me off. She was furious. Her eyes were on fire, shooting flaming daggers as she looked at me, the bedroom door, and the plastic bags packed with all her belongings through the open door of the spare bedroom!

I had never, ever, ever seen her so fierce.

Additionally, I have never physically fought with a woman (civilian woman, that is) in my life and I was not about to start now.

Resigned to my fate, I slumped down and squatted on the landing and watched the scenes unfold.

The next thing I hear is Kai’s suitcase dropped on the hallway floor, then bedroom doorknob being jiggled several times, and finally the sound of Kai trying to open the door (unsuccessfully) with every key on the spare ring of keys.

(I knew that there was no spare bedroom key on that ring.)

Then the real show began.

Arrghh! Whack! Mah hee-ah (very bad Thai word)!! Thump! Krai (Who)! Whack-whack-whack!

Kai was screaming, kicking, and hitting the bedroom door. I thought she was going to break the door down!

- Poor, Little Girl? -

But then suddenly it was quiet, a deafening kind of silence.

I walked up the remaining stair to find Kai in a fetal position by my bedroom door, sobbing. Her whole world was shattering and she looked like such a poor, sad, little orphan girl. I felt like the world’s greatest heel.

Gently, I scooped her up in my arms and started down the stairs again.

Carrying her, I remembered the many times I’d found her asleep in front of the T.V. and carried her to bed. But now, she felt so light, so little, and so vulnerable.

What am I doing? What am I thinking? This woman in my arms used me. She used me like she used all the other men. She put me through hell!

I need to maintain. Stay focused.

For all I know, this is just another one of her tricks.

Besides, I have not forgotten Nueng. Nueng has never lied to me. Nueng has never squeezed me for money. Nueng has never abandoned me. Nueng deserves a man that will do likewise. Nueng loves me and I love her.

Half way down the stairs, at the landing, Kai reached out for the wooden railing and held a firm grip on it. She wanted down and out of my arms. And she wanted down now!

I put her on her feet and tried to wipe the tears away from her eyes, but she turned away. It was obvious that she didn’t want me to touch her anymore.

I saw ultimate **** in her eyes as she took off the gold ring and silver school ring I’d given her last year and flung them onto the floor of the landing. They sounded like coins being dropped into a beggar’s cup.

Bless her heart. She didn’t pawn them. Later on, I found out why. She didn’t need to. She had pawned my expensive cell phone instead.

Then she reached into her purse, extracted her ATM cards - the ATM cards that used to have access to two of my bank accounts, but deactivated by now – and threw them down too.

Plunk, plunk. They landed like thick, kindergarten playing cards beside the rings.

Through all of this, I was actually starting to feel sorry for her. I tried to, but didn’t have the heart to look at her. I just kept my head and eyes down, staring at the rings and ATM cards.

They look so lonely down there.

To regain my composure (and resolve) I briefly shut my eyes and took in a deep breath.

- Round Two -

The next thing I felt is Kai’s face on my chest. She has me in a bear hug. She is weeping like an unloved, neglected baby. I feel her tears running down my stomach. With each crying convulsion she squeezes me tighter and tighter.

Jeez! This little girl’s stronger than she looks!

Releasing her hug on me, Kai reaches up and holds my face in her hands. I open my eyes to see Kai’s teary, red swollen eyes, runny nose, and trembling lips.

She was hysterical (shaking uncontrollably) and hyperventilating.

Struggling through quick, short inhales, she whimpered, “J.C. mai rak Kai (J.C. no love Kai)? [sob, sob] Tamai (Why)? [sob, sob] Tamai, tee rak (Why, darling)? Chan rak khun (I love you). [sob, sob] Kai love J.C! Chan rak khun. Chan rak khun! (I love you. I love you!).”

Coughing and sniffling, she leans into my body and hugs me tight again…

Meet Hector Lopez (The Terrorist Are Already Here)is Hector only here for a better life ?

Beach Girl asked:

Hector lives in a wooden shack on the outskirts of Juarez, Mexico,
four miles from the town of El Paso, Texas. He drives an old, blue and
rusty Chevrolet pick-up truck that looks like many other old blue and
rusty Chevrolet pick-up trucks in Mexico. You’ll see Hector wearing
faded blue jeans and a long sleeve blue work shirt. Both are dirty and
frayed. His straw hat was once white, but now a dark beige with
several sweat-stain hatband rings. Mr. Lopez is a small man, 5′6″ in
height and weighs 143 pounds. He walks with a slight limp, and holds
his hat in one hand when he bows shyly to say “Si Senor”. Hector, like
many Mexican men, has grown a mustache. We see lots of “Hectors”
these days, and we avert our eyes from them because they are, well,
poor.
One morning Hector drives to a desolate spot overlooking the Rio
Grande, River. He walks to the water’s edge and looks across the 70
foot wide stream, enters the river and dog-paddles across with the end
of a rope in his mouth. Standing on a Texas rancher’s soil, and with no
one in sight for miles, Hector pulls the rope which is wrapped-around a
55 gallon drum and easily pulls the floating barrel over to him. He
removes the lid and dumps a 3 foot tall, 88 pound metal object into the
sandy soil at his feet. Using his bare hands, Hector covers the object,
then swims back to the Mexican side of the river, pulling the empty
barrel back with him. He discards the empty drum in an old abandoned
tar paper plant junk yard, and drives to the Avenue of the Americas.
Hector shows the border guard his Matricula Consular ID card, speaks a
few words in Spanish to his fellow Mexican, and drives into the City of El
Paso. Hector eases the old Chevy up Airway Boulevard, turns East on
Montana, and after several miles, turns south on Ranch Road and down
to the Rio Grande, River. He stops hear the spot where he stood an
hour earlier, uncovers the object, and places it on the front passenger
seat of his truck. Hector proceeds to drive up Ranch Road, headed for
the United States Army Post of Fort Bliss.
The “object” Hector has next to him on the front seat is a 2 kiloton
Russian nuclear warhead, stolen (along with 2 others) by a former
Russian rocket-army colonel following the break-up of the Soviet Union.
This particular nuclear device was purchased for 50 million Saudi-Arabia
oil dollars, sent to Mexico by cargo freighter, and off-loaded to a barren
Mexican shoreline onboard a rubber Zodiac boat.
Hector’s real name is Mohammed Saad, a Jordanian born former
Fedayheen soldier who killed 67 Israeli’s in the Gaza over a period of 18
months. “Mohammed” earned his undergraduate degree in engineering
from Purdue University in Indiana. He speaks 4 languages fluently,
including Spanish, and learned and adopted the shy mannerisms of a
“peon”. He is a clever, bloodthirsty killer.
“Hector” (Mohammed) obtained his Matricula Consular card for twenty
five dollars and a forged Catholic Baptismal Certificate. He could use his
Consular card to get an American driver’s license in 16 states.
Hector “hung out” in Juarez for 3 weeks, observing, learning
mannerisms and “quirks” of the poor Mexican people while he awaited
the arrival of his bomb on a Cessna 172 single engine airplane that
delivered it on a dirt road close to his shack. The bomb was, like him,
offloaded from an Iberian registered freighter somewhere between
Texas and the Yucatan Penninsula.
Hector’s “contact” is an old friend named Bakari Salihan, who lives
extremely well and dresses impeccably as a commercial real-estate
developer in El Paso, Texas. They communicate via small notices in the
Catholic section of the newspaper. Bakari is head of a new Islamic
mosque in El Paso, and gets plenty of cash from The Muslim
Brotherhood to front his efforts for “Allah”.

Keep an eye out for Hector and Bakari. They are here.

Value-added Services: Wire and Cable Modifications

Filed under: Ask An Expert — wood_rings @ 2:41 pm

Tim Flynn asked:

Wire and cable do not generally come with all the modifications needed for a specific application. For example, your application could call for wire with ink-jet printing for easy identification during installation and usage. Similarly, you may want your wires dyed various colors for prompt circuit identification. This is where value-added manufacturers take over.

Several manufacturers supply distributors, wire harness manufacturers, and OEMs with value-added services for wire and cable products. A value-added service indicates a customization on an order that goes beyond a basic or core service. In other words, it benefits the end user by “adding value” to the standard service offered.

In the electrical wire and cable industry, value-added services include braiding, cut and strip, printing, bar-coding, dyeing, custom put ups, striping, and more.  These services can be broken down into four main categories – Identification Solutions, Installation Solutions, Labeling Solutions, and Packaging Solutions.

Identification Solutions:  Striping, Dyeing, and Printing

Striping and Dyeing

Manufacturers and distributors of electrical wire often add stripes or dye a base wire another color. These processes are multifunctional as they add value to the product, differentiate the wire for circuit identification and help control inventory volumes of stocked material.

In order to dye a wire, a specially-built machine feeds the wire product through a system of pulleys. First, the wire passes through a “wiper,” a foam circle that encompasses the entire cable. The jacket of the wire absorbs a formulated dye that is present in the foam. After passing through the wiper, the wire goes into a heat tower to cure and dry.

Striping, which many manufacturers offer for extruded wire, is performed in the same machine as dyeing. However, for striping, the wire does not pass through a foam wiper. Instead, the wire passes through a striper head that spins around the wire before it goes into the dryer tower.

The produced stripes are either longitudinal or spiral. Post-production striping usually generates a spiral stripe, like that on a candy cane.  Longitudinal stripes, which run along the side of a wire, are also available post-production, but are not as common as the spiral type.  Contrasting stripes are generally used when more than ten circuits have to be identified.

Almost all insulations are able to be striped, including PVC, rubber, silicone, and PTFE. Similar to striping, most PVC compounds can be dyed to individual specifications without encountering any problems. However, some compounds that are CV-cured or irradiated are not able to be dyed because they were originally designed to repel both petroleum- and alkaline-based chemicals. The color will not soak into the insulation and is prone to flaking.

Printing

In addition to common striping and dyeing methods, there are other ways of marking wire for identification. Many OEMs and harness manufacturers prefer using printed wire in their assembled products. Printed wire not only helps in the assembly of products, but also benefits installers and users of the finished product.

One way of marking wire is with ink-jet printing. Using a dot matrix printer, a series of “dots” create characters on a wire. For example, in the automotive industry, a harness may be manufactured for turn signals. In this case, the specific wire would be ink-jet printed “left front turn signal” or “tail lights.” Each wire would be color coded in the harness and ink-jet printed, making it user-friendly and easily identifiable.

Another way of marking wire is hot stamping, which entails a process similar to that of a typewriter. A character-shaped “head” strikes a colored tape, causing the chosen character(s) to appear on the wire.

Installation Solutions:  Twisting, Braiding, and Cut & Strip

Twisting

Many OEMs need paired wire in the manufacturing process. Grouping single- or multi-conductor cables into various configurations can cut installation time dramatically.  It allows wires to lie together, which in turn makes working with them easier.

In order to create paired wire, a process known as twisting must occur. Twisting entwines multiple wires and arranges them tightly next to each other. Two, three, and even up to eight wires can be twisted together.

The process of putting wire ends into a drill and twisting the wire is one home-grown twisting method that’s still practiced on the production floor. It will get the job done to some extent, but it will not remove the natural twist in each wire. This means that if the wire is cut into small lengths, it will not stay twisted together.

Another problem with this method is the wire acquires dirt and grit on the production floor. The dirt could transfer to the finished product, which could then pose major problems. Twisting using a dedicated wire twisting machine is the only way to get a good lay to the wires.

Braiding

One process that helps add protection against abrasion in harsh environments is braiding.

Braiding is a process in which small strands are woven together on top of a wire or cable for added protection. At the start of the process, numerous spools, also called “Bobbins,” of very small gauge wire (32-36 AWG) are inserted into a wire braiding machine.

The bobbins are each placed in a precise location within the machine and the ends of each bobbin are pulled to the top of the braiding machine. Next, the bobbins are subjected to a spinning or circular weaving motion, while a wire or cable is pulled up through the center of the bobbins. As the synchronized process commences, a weave or braid is manufactured over the cable. Finally, the finished product is drawn out of the braid machine onto a larger spool or payoff.

Cut & Strip

Having your wire cut and stripped saves time and money and prevents excessive waste. Let’s say you need 1000 four-inch pieces of wire to install in printers that you manufacture. For each piece, you need .5 inches of wire exposed on the ends. Instead of having your factory workers manually cut each piece off the reel and then remove the insulation from the ends, have your value-added manufacturer complete the process for you.

The cut and strip process starts at one end of a cut and strip machine where a reel is held in what is called a “payoff.” The machine operator enters the overall length and desired cut and strip measurements for the pieces. Next, the wire is fed through a set of pressure-sensitive wheels that hold the wire tautly.

Then the wire is passed through a pair of blades that strip the insulation, as it can sense where the bare wire begins. The wire is then pulled to the end to make the length cut. Finally, it is pulled backward slightly in order to make the final ‘strip’ cut. The pieces of insulation cut for the strip can be left on the end of the wire to prevent the strands from fraying. This detached piece of insulation is called the slug.

The final cut and stripped wire is dropped into a bin.  The machine will finish the process for the total amount of wire length the machine operator entered at the beginning.

Labeling Solutions:  UL/CSA Labels, RFID, Custom Labels, Bar-Coding

UL & CSA Labels

Wire and cable products can be sent pre-labeled with UL and CSA tags.  Use of these tags ensures that products will arrive at the delivery-point already marked to meet internal classifications, aiding in proper identification and distribution upon receipt.

RFID & Government Labels

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is another Value-Added option to pre-label products for ease of receipt.  These labels are encoded with a radio frequency that can be “read” by a transponder.  RFID labels provide more than the basic information offered by a standard print label or even a bar-code, and can be read at long distances.

Value-added manufacturers will also produce Government labels.  These specify any government-level classifications of Mil-Spec wires and cables, and can aid in tracking and inventory.

Custom Shipping Labels

Custom shipping labels include the specific information a company requires to meet their standards right on the package.  The types of information likely to be found on a custom shipping label, aside from the shipping address, include Part Number, Supplier Part Number, PO Number, Lot Number, and Date.

Bar-Coding

This service will print the needed information right on the shipping label in the bar-code standard the company uses.  There are two general types of bar-codes:  linear, which is used more often, and matrix, which holds more data.  Common linear formats are UPC, generally used in retail, and MSI, generally used in warehouse inventory.

Packaging Solutions:  Special Packaging/Reel Sizes

Wire is heavy, consumes space, and is hard to keep in inventory. In addition, OEMs worry about the costs in set-up and handling of preprocessed and post-processed wire. Many OEMs that regularly use wire have gotten special reels or spools in order to efficiently use storage area, maintain an accurate inventory, and keep costs to a minimum.

Wire and cable distributors that cater to OEMs and harness houses have developed unique ways to store wire. One such way is to use large bulk Drum “reels.” Drums are commonly constructed of cardboard or pressed paper (with a center core of the same material) and metal rings around the top and bottom. When wire is ready to be stored, it is laid into the Drum using a circular motion that allows for easy removal. Storage capacity in any given Drum can be thousands of feet, depending on the gauge of the wire. However, if the Drum is rolled or damaged, the wire may become almost impossible to remove.

Reels and spools come in many different sizes and configurations for use with varying wire types. For example, large 6 to 8 foot tall wooden slatted reels hold large gauge power cable.  Many wire manufacturers use 2,500 ft to 5,000 ft spools for hook-up wire.

Small gauge wire may be spooled on a 10-inch plastic spool that has a center core length of 5 to 6 inches and holds up to 10,000 ft.  Certain factors determine the spool size you will need; one important factor is how the wire will be used in the manufacturing process.

If the manufacturer usually cuts their wire by automated machine, the spool size or Drum size may be critical. For example, using an automated machine, a large Drum of wire can be gone in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the length of the cut. Cost is another factor. As an added benefit for a large reel size or Drum Packs, many distributors offer discounts on bulk reels.

With all of their unique abilities, value-added services conveniently customize while offering solutions for precise wire and cable specifications. As an additional advantage, purchasing wire and cable from a value-added manufacturer proves to be cost-effective because everything you need can be completed in a single location by one vendor.

Electrical wire and cable distributors have the tools to prepare wire for the buyer’s convenience. Whatever the service, the value-added distributor offers the ability to custom-order inventory to fit individual process and storage needs. This translates into better usage of time and space, and that further translates into profit.

Wedding Ring Info: What you Can Afford and What Will Last

John Souter asked:

Five wedding ring metals make up the usual selection; gold, white gold, platinum, titanium, and silver. Each specific type has its pluses and minuses.

There’s some important considerations in choosing a ring, from choosing the metals, karat, and color, to choosing a look that reflects your personality and budget. The following info will help you make the right decision in choosing a wedding ring.

The most common type of wedding band is gold. Gold is a soft precious metal that is classified by color and karats. Your options are yellow gold, white cold, and rose gold. The typical karats for gold rings are 14 and 18. Meaning a14 karat gold ring has 58 percent gold and 41 percent alloys like copper and zinc. 18 karat gold jewelry consists of 75 percent gold and 20 percent other metals. 24 karat gold rings are containing 100 percent pure gold. 24 karat gold is not the best for making rings. This is because the more gold in the ring, the softer the ring ends up. The softer the ring turns out to be, the less durable the ring and the the shorter it will last. 14 and 18 karat gold will not tarnish, but there are those who are allergic to gold, so picking a gold band may not be a choice. 14k yellow or gold bands retail from 60 to 5,000 dollars. 18k yellow or white gold wedding bands could cost you 85 to 5,000 dollars.

Platinum is a beautiful white precious metal that will never fade. It is a quite dense, solid precious metal that is the most durable of the precious metals, still it is too soft for bands. Despite the fact that platinum is a 95 percent pure white metal, ruthenium and iridium must be included for durability. Platinum wedding rings often feel heavier on the finger, but are very lasting and a great choice for both bride’s and groom’s wedding rings. Platinum is also hypo-allergenic. Platinum rings retail from 350 to 5,000 dollars.

Titanium is the most durable metal known to man, but it is not as common in ring making. This metal is hypo-allergenic and may be inlaid with gold, silver, or platinum to make exquisite rings that will be treasured for a lifetime. When electricity or heat is applied, Titanium oxidizes which then helps the metal to seem colored. Normal colors are purple, blue, and iridescent. Titanium rings can not be soldered, which means resizing becomes impossible. It is also one of the harder metals to cut through should the ring need to be extricated due to an emergency. Titanium wedding rings will cost from 150.00 to 4,000 dollars.

Silver is a remarkably soft white metal that is a victim to tarnishing and discoloration. Silver wedding bands are ideal for people who are on a small budget. However, since the metal is quite soft, silver wedding bands will not last quite as long as gold, platinum, or titanium wedding bands. Silver wedding rings go for 50 to 200 dollars.

Three Spots for a Quiet Afternoon in Paris

Phil Chavanne asked:

There are so many things to see in Paris and so little time to do it that your journey in the French capital can wind up taking the colors of a marathon run. I offer you a different take on it: stop, review your options, and decide to kill a couple of hours doing just nothing but reading a good book in a spot where you can be left to yourself. Here are three spots where you can do just that.

The China House

In America when we think of a social venue where to spend a couple of hours reading and sipping on some hot beverage, the local Starbucks shop comes to mind almost immediately. Starbucks is slowly building a beach head in Europe where Italian coffee dominates the espresso market, leaving very little room for the kind of brew Starbucks sells.

In other words, Starbucks shops do not abound in Paris. But there are many other venues of the sort, and sometimes much better ones. The China House (La Maison de la Chine) belongs to this latter category.

Standing at 76 rue Bonaparte, in the Saint Germain des Pres area, La Maison de la Chine offers tea lovers a perfect haven to taste various teas and nibble at a couple of ‘macarons’ (small cookies with a light cream spread within) and other pastries. The ‘tea house’ is open from 3:00 to 7:00 pm Monday to Saturday. Tasting sessions give you an opportunity to sip on some of the finest Chinese teas: Tieguanyin, Longjing, Yinzhen, and Shuixian. The tea is prepared along the lines of an ancient tradition with special bamboo utensils, clay teapot and water pot, a ‘cup for smelling’ and a ‘cup for sipping’.

Should you also wish to have lunch there, their Shanghaï Cafe opens between 12:30 and 2:30 pm. Their courses are a mix between Chinese and Thai food, with some interesting flavors. The food doesn’t come cheap (there are two options, one for 22, the other for 28) but quality is good.

Les Jardins du Luxembourg

Definitely one of my favorite areas in my teenage years. The Luxembourg Gardens are the Parisian version of London’s Hyde Park and NYC’s Central Park. It extends across a large section of the city, spreading over parts of several districts. The French Senate House was built along one of its sides.

Monikered ‘le Luco’ by the youth of the 6th district (a well-to-do crowd with its own social codes and exclusive parties), the Jardins du Luxembourg are informally divided into sections.

In one of these, children can ride an old wooden-horse merry-go-round, and catch metal rings with short wooden sticks. Further away, there are a few tennis courts, and a puppet theater. The vast expanse of land facing the French Senate House features a water basin where youngsters float model sailboats.

One of the quietest spots of the Gardens borders the Rue d’Assas. It is shaded by old trees around which narrow alleys wrap up. Metal chairs line up the alleys, and it may become hard to find one unoccupied during summer as students love to hang around and study in this area. A perfect place for a quiet afternoon of reading or romantic strolling.

Meet Louis the 13th at Place des Vosges

Ensconced by four rows of 17th century mansions, Place des Vosges is probably best known for its art galleries. Those exhibit artworks of a more modern breed that the galleries which line up the famed Rue de Seine, near Saint-Germain-des-Pres.

To me however, Place de Vosges is mainly remarkable for its peaceful, miniature park. The 39 mansions around the Place shelter it from the traffic rumble coming from the Rue Saint Antoine (Southern side) and the Boulevard Beaumarchais (Eastern side). This sort of a rampart also serves as a wind-cutter during fall and springtime.

Mid-sized trees line up the fence around the symmetrically built park. At its center, a tree-circle in which stands a bronze statue of Louis the 13th who, we learn, died at age 33. Around the central circle, my target: one of four green lawns where I can unfold a spread, lay down, and read.

During summer, there are always a couple of classical and jazz formations playing under the nearby arcades. They play at a pretty good level which gives a nice touch to the local vibe.

Among the restaurants around the Place, I personally like ‘Ma Bourgogne’ at No. 19. They serve hearty meals for 25-35.

Plenty more spots to come

There is no shortage of quiet spots where to kill a couple of delicious hours in Paris. In fact I’ll write about some more in the coming weeks. When you are in Paris, take some time off to enjoy the city vibe differently; don’t just roll with the Parisian hustle-bustle. I’ll see you in a while with more food for thought.

The Custom of Exchanging Wedding Rings

Naval Sharma asked:

The custom of exchanging links is being practiced since ages. The binding of relationships with these small round structures has an eternal importance. Let’s read this article to find more about the ring exchanging custom that everybody experiences at least once in life.

Exchanging Rings symbolizes the love and devotion among the ring bearers. A wedding ring or engagement ring is a precious metal ring given as a betrothal present. to indicate marital commitment. Such rings are usually worn in the left hand ring finger.

Diamonds have always been the first choice to be studded in wedding rings and engagement rings. With the luxurious addition in customs and traditions and encouraged by jewelry trade rings are exchanged representing the past present and future of a relationship.

A pre-wedding ring –engagement ring is given usually to commit acceptance of eternal marital relationship. The idea expands with the presenting of promise rings or eternity rings that signify the serious courting relationships.

Wedding Tradition in Europe encourages engraving of spouses name on wedding ring and date of marriage too. This custom makes the wedding ring sentimentally intended for the auspicious occasion only.

In Indian cultural marriages, we too have ring exchanging custom on the engagement ceremonies or ring ceremonies. As Gold is known to be the symbol of purity, Indian customs emphasize on gold jewelry or gemstone jewelry as a betrothal present given to the bride.

To bind two souls into an eternal relationship of marriage, engagement rings have a great part to play. So if you are looking to be committed to someone buy your beloved an exclusive diamond ring and share your feelings through rings.

The sub is too big and touches the bottom of the fiberglass enclosure, and the only way to mount it would be to put a wooden ring under it to raise up the mounting area. If I raise the mount with a wooden ring, will the fact that it still touches the bottom of the enclosure affect performance and how it performs?

?? Pink Flamingo ?? asked:

Soon Quinn dismounted from his black stallion and knotted his reins to a pole. Caden followed his brother’s actions, then hopped up the wooden steps into the shop. As they pushed open the door, a bell rang, signaling that they had arrived. Caden tried to hide his face by pulling up his cloak. She couldn’t notice him. He’d dressed nicely and slicked back his hair so he looked somewhat different from his ragged old self, but he didn’t plan on the disguise working. This morning it had to fool his father and his brother he wasn’t trying to change his identity and, right now, it had to alter his identity from the lady working at the shop. Most likely it wouldn’t work, but Caden still had to try. Quinn weighed a brightly colored tomato in his left hand and another in his right. Each was plump and ripe. Then with a scowl imprinted upon his face, Quinn laid down the fruit in his left hand and kept the other. The man searched down all the carts in the shop, from apples to yams. The whole time +
Caden was holding his breath in a corner, hoping that the shopkeeper wouldn’t notice him. Finally after Quinn spread out all the fruit, vegetables, and bread on the countertop, the lady turned around and calculated the price.
“That’ll be six coins, sir.” Quinn untied the strings of his purse off of his belt and dug through the little bag, counting them aloud with a whisper. Caden gave his brother an impatient hand motion to get moving. Rolling his eyes, Quinn glared at Caden then handed the money off to the lady.
“Thank you. You had wonderful crops this year. I hope they will be just as good next year, for our family will be looking forward to it.”
“I hope so too. My husband said that the strawberries will be ready in a few more weeks if you would like to get the best of the pick first. An’ at the end of summer, we’ll have some sweet cantaloupe for you to purchase.” She gathered Quinn’s items and tied them in all in a cloth then handed it back to him. “Oh and before you go, tell +
that boy you came in with that if he stole anything this time, he’s mighty stupid to be going back to the same shop in the same week.”
Caden’s cheeks flushed as he gently let down his hood, nervously chuckling.
“I’ll make sure he knows he’s stupid for stealing from you in the first place. Thank you again for letting me even step foot in your shop when he came with me.”
“No problem. You are a sweet young man.” Quinn blushed as the lady patted his hand, and then he skittered out of the shop with Caden behind him.
Outside the horses whinnied and stamped their hooves in the newly made mud as rain bounced off the roof and soaked into the earth. Mothers were pushing their children inside their houses, scolding them for getting their clothes wet and muddy. The wind tossed the rain back and forth, the dark clouds determined to cause chaos. Far back in the hills, lightening struck something invisible, flashing bright orange, then was quickly put out by the soaking rain. +
“Looks like we better wait this one out. I’m sure Father is furious that we weren’t home in time to help lock the horses up.” Quinn smiled gloomily as he forced his eyes to the ground. The mud bubbled and ****** at his boots as the thirsty earth drank all that it was given.
Caden’s small bay gelding made up his mind by stamping his hoof in the mud, splattering it all over the two men. Untying their steeds and leading them into an ally, they waited there for the storm to be over.
The humidity of earlier that morning died down and turned into a bone-chilling freeze. The wind was just as frigid as the icy raindrops that escaped through the roofs above their heads. Caden welcomed the packed bodies eagerly, wishing that the horses weren’t soggier than he was. The smells of smoke, sweat, and rain blended together in the air; the usually abhorrent smell calming to him.

Finished. How does it sound? I am thinking about throwing this novel away….should I restart? Any suggestions?

Different Types and Tips on How to Make the Most of Them - Part 2

Derek Brown asked:

In part 1 we looked at traditional curtain tapes. In recent years other types of heading have come to the fore and have resulted in the decline in sales of the traditional curtain tape.

The most significant of these is the Eyelet heading. Eyelet headings now represent approximately 40% of the market, whereas 5 years ago they were virtually unheard of.

Most eyelet headings have individual metal eyelets that are painstakingly crimped into the curtain fabric using an eyelet press. Eyelets must have the front and back pieces individually loaded into the press, having first carefully measured and marked where the eyelets are to be positioned across the top of the curtain.

Once created, the eyelet curtain does not use curtain tape hooks or curtain pole rings, as the curtain pole threads through the eyelets themselves.

People like eyelets because they give a refreshing new look, and are available in a variety of metallic (or potentially any) colours. The look of the eyelets is complemented by the uniquely wide curtain pleats that they create, which are regarded as modern and attractive. They are also much easier to dress than pleated curtains, which can take about 10-15 minutes.

The curtain trade like eyelet curtains because they are labour-intensive, and so can command a higher price and can generate a decent cash margin for the maker and for the retailer. The consumer in turn is happy to pay this price because of the modern new look and the time saved in dressing and fiddling with hooks and rings.

Some manufacturers such as Rufflette have attempted to make the eyelet making process a bit easier by making an eyelet tape. However, this is not much of a short-cut and so has not really caught on. Others have latched on to the wide modern pleats and have come up with often ingenious ways of recreating these in the absence of eyelets. This was started in the USA, and has been adopted by Silent Gliss (with their “wave” system) and Speedy Products (with their Perfect Pleat system) with a degree of success.

Give the Gift of Decorative Time

Brian Banks asked:

Out of the millions of homes in the United States, there is one item that continuously makes an appearance in some form or another. Every household displays at least three to five clocks within a home. Since clocks serve the very important function of alerting the current time, it is a plus when they magically transform the décor of any room. This is why clocks make perfect gifts for any occasion, including birthdays, Christmas, graduations, and commemorative moments, such as weddings and anniversaries.

Since the start of ancient civilizations, humans have come up with ways to tell time. Over the past 4,500 years, the methods and styles of time telling have become quite advanced to the point that with a click of a button, an assortment of never-ending clock ideas and features located across the World Wide Web is ready for the choosing. While improving the accuracy of timekeeping devices has been an important goal, the majority of clock styles on the market are created to mainly elevate the décor within a home.

Today, we no longer depend on primitive sundials and water-operated fountain clocks. We thank the invention of coiled springs in the 1400s, which allowed the creation of smaller clocks. Without the genius of Christiaan Huygens in 1656, the pendulum clock (with weights and a swinging pendulum) would cease to exist.

Decorative Clocks

Since clocks are responsible for a rather important everyday task, and have become quite the popular decorating elements – they make exceptional gifts that easily turn into memorable keepsakes. This includes wall selections, tabletop pieces, elaborate wrought iron creations, and even options that withstand Mother Nature, as seen with indoor-outdoor clocks.

The flower lover may enjoy the Boutique Roses Wall Clock, which comes with a classic round shape, antique finish, and Roman numeral face. The antique bouquet of roses accent can uplift a kitchen or add charm to a sewing room. With the Carl Jorgen Wall Clock, a more futuristic design emerges, which is great for a teenage décor or bar room. Western-themed décor would benefit from the Cowboy Wall Clock or Boots Wall Clock from Home Furnishing Boutique. When looking to give the gift of novelty, the Gear Wall Clock offers a different appeal to a hallway or foyer.

Specialty Clocks

When it comes to celebrating a special occasion, these particular moments call for a specialty clock that serves as a constant reminder for the achievement of a graduating college senior or the admiration you hold for your parent’s 25 solid years of marriage. The anniversary clocks offered at Home Furnishing Boutique provide the perfect gestures to honor ever-lasting love. With the Dominion Solid Brass Gold Plated Anniversary Clock, the cozy round shape shines with solid brass and gold plating. Customization is possible on the interior or exterior of the clock lid.

With the Executive Walnut Finish Plaque Anniversary Clock, the attractive solid hardwood with a classic walnut finish easily adds a memorable touch to a desk, shelf, or mantle. With this customizable clock, receivers of this gift readily enjoy the additional medallion and brass nameplate that accompanies the display. However, the whimsical Jubilee Brass with Glass Dome Anniversary Clock makes the perfect accompaniment for a fireplace with its appealing brass finish and metal casing. Additional features sealed within the glass dome include the brass pillars, and a pendulum that delicately sways with Swarovsky crystal and a two-tone diamond cut dial ring – a complete eye catcher.

Want to pair a keepsake clock with a photo of the grandkids? Consider the Desk Portrait Solid Brass Desk Clock, which allows Grandma and Grandpa to greet their grandchildren when telling the time. Other clocks that make great anniversary gifts, includes the Lord Baltimore Solid Brass Pedestal Clock and the lantern-style looking Wentworth Brass Finish Carriage Style Desk Clock.

USA Wooden Clocks

Home Furnishing Boutique also supplies a collection of fine, handmade wooden clocks fashioned in the U.S.A with mantle and wall styles to consider. Have you ever walked into the home of a relative and noticed that their fireplace seemed a bit bare? In order to add to their décor, consider an attractive wooden mantle clock of solid cherry, white maple, or colored oak.

With the Crystal Seville Ball Pendulum Mantle Clock, the solid cherry wood cabinet and warm cherry finish showcases a mesmerizing Swarovsky crystal ball pendulum surrounded by twisted brass pillars and a diamond-cut rose pattern found on the dial. The Seville Solid Cherry Glass Window Mantle Clock offers a round, open dial of brass and silver and cathedral windows – joined by Roman numerals. You also have the choice of clocks that not only display the time, but also emit single and dual chimes.

As for wooden wall clocks, the fascinating display that a pendulum clock delivers can create a completely different look to a room. A classic style wall clock can make an attractive addition to the newly remodeled bathroom at your best friend’s house. Perhaps Grandma would enjoy the Carlisle Oak American Classic Replica Schoolhouse Wall Clock with an oak cabinet and finish for the kitchen. Overall, wooden wall clocks have the power to add character and charm to any room in a house with an array of dark antique finishes and traditional styles.

What’s the Best Way or Ways to Show Your Love of Lord of the Rings?

roso159 asked:

I’ve seen the movies twice, I’m almost done reading the books, I’ve baked lembas bread, gone exploring in the woods many times with friends pretending we’re in the movies, built the main and supporting characters out of Legos, I have two small posters from the movies, I have Fellowship of the Ring computer game and I’ve played it once, I’m in the process of ordering Return of the King computer game, and I have attempted (hasn’t worked yet) to make a bow and arrows and a target.
I also plan on sewing a cloak (I already have the materials), making a pair of moccasins, and copying a map of Middle Earth onto a large sheet of paper to hang up so I will never forget where each place mentioned in the books is.
I’ve planned all this, and done all that, but I feel like I still am not doing enough to really live in Lord of the Rings. Should I get a large poster? Make a wooden sword (my friends and I just use wooden “staffs”)? Get some action figures? Learn a little Elvish? I would like some good, creative answers from other LOtR fanatics. If it helps, I’m thirteen years old.

No-dig Gardening

miles trench asked:

My No-Dig Veggie Garden

   Miles Trench

I have been a passionate organic gardener for over thirty-five years. My first memories are of my father’s fruit orchard in Marden, South Australia, where the deep alluvial loam grew magnificent plums, apricots, peaches and nectarines. In fact, everything we planted grew well. And I fondly recall our early morning trips to the market in the 1970s, the ute loaded up with half-cases full of ripe, juicy fruit ready to sell.

My grandfather had established an extensive market garden in Uraidla, in the Adelaide Hills. He taught my father about using nature to help grow healthy organic produce. And in turn, I learned from my dad. In fact, most ‘green thumbs’ of the older generation have a wealth of valuable experience and advice to offer – if only we take the time to ask. Then I moved to the Yorke Peninsula and found to my dismay that our block has only a very thin layer of topsoil and underneath it’s solid limestone. So it was with great interest that I began reading Esther Dean’s book on no-dig gardening. Well, straight away I was hooked. The no-dig system as she explains is a fantastic, eco-friendly method of growing nutritious fresh vegetables at home. It’s cheap, easy, no fuss and completely chemical-free (something I have been advocating for a long time.)

There are many benefits and advantages to using a no-dig system; they include:

Any suitable area can be used to house a no-dig grow bed as long as there is enough sun, access to organic material and clean water is available – you can even build a no-dig edible garden on top of flat concrete if that’s the only space you have available.

(Just be sure that excess water can run off and won’t cause problems later on.)

It saves time and effort (and your back! – no more bending to work hard ground).

The organic medium in the grow-bed retains its structure and fertility well.

(This is because the organisms in the soil mix [soil biota] are not continually disturbed as they are during traditional ‘in-ground’ digging and planting methods.

It’s simple – kids through to the elderly can give it a go, and with great results too!

It’s cheap, organic, uses recycled materials and is environmentally friendly.

It reduces water use, insect attack and damage; and weed infestation and competition.

It can be done on a small scale – right through to as large as you can manage.

As the organic material breaks downs it creates a soil warming effect.

And finally – it really works!

Worms…

The gardener’s friend, the humble earth worm, is nature’s underground dynamo.

When you make a no-dig grow-bed without a solid bottom (for example you recycle an old rainwater tank and cut the bottom out), worms in the soil underneath and nearby will then have access. They will work their way up from below, aerating the bed and enriching the soil mix as they go.

Worms:

Drag small particles of organic matter down into the soil.

Deposit ‘worm-castings’ or vermicast back onto the surface

§             Vermicast helps enrich the soil through the addition

         of micro-elements and plant-friendly bacteria.

§             Vermicast used au natural or in the form of a weak ‘tea’

makes an amazing, eco-friendly and non-toxic natural

         fertilizer.

                Tunnelling worms aerate the soil

§             this assists drainage, moisture retention and also provides

         access for developing plant roots.

Tunnelling earthworms also leave behind a trail of polysaccharides

              (sugars) and plant-friendly bacteria

‘Worm-farms’, are a great way to recycle organic kitchen scraps and

will produce a free, natural, liquid fertilizer at the same time.

Earthworms - Class Oligochaeta Phylum Annelida

How to Build a No-Dig Grow Bed

 Materials

1)             No-dig bed framework – any suitably robust structure strong enough

                to contain the soil mix

2)             Oaten hay, straw or lucerne

3)             Old newspapers

4)             Compost and well rotted manure

5)             Clean water (to wet down the material as you go)

6)             Organic fertilizer (to boost plant growth)

7)             A couple of hours to prepare and construct the no-dig bed

8)             Seeds or seedlings to plant.

Method

1)      Choose a sheltered, sunny site for your no-dig garden bed, away from any large tree roots (if possible). Any form of solid frame can be used, as long as it’s strong enough to support the soil mix and won’t break down in the rain and weather.

Do not set up your no-dig bed directly on top of established kikuyu or thick Buffalo grass or similar,  as these grasses thrive on the leached nutrients and

will send runners all through your mix to eventually swamp the whole bed.

Recycled rainwater tanks make great no-dig grow beds

Some examples of no-dig frames you might use.

Hay Bales    Old wire bed frames    Boards

    Sleepers     Rainwater tanks    Bathtubs

Tyres    Wooden pallets (cut to size)

Stones piled up/Besser bricks, Galvanised iron

Be inventive - find what you can use - use what you find

 2) Once you have picked your spot, erect or construct your no-dig bed framework. Secure

it well with screws or bolts or strong wire/twine to make it strong. You can use hay bales (see below), to get you started on your first attempts at no-dig.

Steps to constructing a hay/straw bale no-dig framework

Set up your bales of hay in a rectangle then loop and tie a supportive ring of strong twine around the shape, to prevent collapse (the coloured plastic cord that binds the hale bales is a good, strong twine).

Knock in some heavy garden stakes around the outside of the frame to provide extra support to the structure (see below). Using stakes tied with twine also provides an ideal trellis for climbing beans, tomatoes or cucumbers.

Next, place a layer of gravel, small rocks, twigs, or similar coarse material as a base to ensure your bed will have good drainage. Make sure this layer is thick enough to smother any ground weeds. I use a layer of broken bricks at the bottom for a no-dig garden bed, with hay bales to form the outside framework.

3)      Lay down several sheets of newspaper, a layer of thick cardboard or an old piece of carpet. Wet this down thoroughly. On top of this spread a few handfuls of blood and bone, Dynamic Lifter® or a similar (slow release) organic fertilizer.

4)      Add the first layer of pea straw or hay (oaten hay is the best), about eight cm (ten inches) thick. Wet this down well also.

5)      Add the next layer – about twenty cm (eight inches) of manure. Make sure it is well rotted and weed-free (if possible). Water-in well also.

6)     Cow manure is good, but any natural animal manure is OK – Zoo-Poo® is rated highly by some, but make sure any manure you do use is well aged, as fresh stuff will

burn fragile plant roots. On top of the manure add a layer of compost, humus,

or vegetative scraps (like old corn husks, cabbage or lettuce leaves.)

7) Add another layer of lucerne, straw or oaten hay and water in well. To this, add a crust

of powdered dolomite, garden lime, crushed rock or granite dust. These compounds add essential minerals and trace elements to the mix and help stabilize the pH levels (acid vs. alkaline). Soil pH of around 7 (neutral) is generally the best for growing most vegetables.

8) Add another good, thick layer of aged manure.

9) Top this up with a thick layer, about twenty cm (eight inches) of humus, compost, potting mix or good, clean garden soil. This acts as the base medium to plant your veggies in.

CAREFUL:  You can use grass clippings in the layers of your mix, but be careful!  Grass clippings should be mixed in with other material (like compost or dry leaves, bits of bark, or small prunings/twigs) to make a combined layer, so that the grass won’t form into lumpy mats that will go mouldy, spoil the mix and may also introduce mould and fungus.

Warning:

1) Some horse or livestock manures may contain residual chemicals used in worming, performance or pest control treatment, especially stuff from

pig farms horse studs.

2) Poultry manure (especially pigeon poo) is very high in nitrogen and phosphorus. It must be well broken-down and diluted or combined well with other composted material before using: Never use raw poultry manure as fertilizer on your plants.

Well, that’s about it. Of course, this is just one way to construct and prepare a no-dig garden. You can rig-up just about any sturdy framework and fill it with layers of organic material and grow lovely veggies. So if you don’t have all the material suggested above,

use what can obtain cheaply and easily and give it a go. The important thing is to have

a weed-free, nutrient-rich soil base that is deep enough for the plants to grow in.

You will also that notice that over time the soil mix in the bed will begin to subside. This is normal. Just keep topping up with organic material to maintain a sufficient depth.

A bed using hay/straw bales for the framework will last a couple of crops. Just recycle the hay or straw and use it as mulch or as part of a new no-dig grow bed. Boxes or large pots can be another easy way to no-dig garden as well. Some people grow potatoes in a ring of old tyres, they just keep adding another tyre on top, filling it with more organic material as the spuds develop and grow. When the tops die off, the spuds below are ready to harvest.

Other materials that can be used in a no-dig bed:

Coconut fibre / coir / comfrey leaves

Sawdust (mix with manure or leaves, compost or similar)

                               Mushroom compost, shredded  seaweed

Rice hulls, Cocoa bean/nut shells, peat

Hint:    Mulch around veggie seedlings with seaweed:

It adds vital minerals like iodine to the soil mix.

Q. ‘What if I use an old tub with a bottom and the worms can’t get in’? Good question…

A. ‘Well, worm eggs abound in most good soils, so add a couple of handfuls to your mix and once the moisture and conditions are right, they will soon hatch and grow and begin the industrious machinations we all appreciate and treasure.

But if after a few weeks there is still no sign of worms, make sure once again you have adequate drainage (if it’s too moist, they will drown) and then go for a dig around the moist parts of your garden or beg, borrow or buy a few from a neighbour or friend –

(you can also purchase worm eggs on-line).

And lastly, be aware that there is a difference between the tiger worms used in worm farms, and the usual garden variety found in most soils.

Well I hope you have enjoyed this story of how I created my no-dig garden.

I now have six grow beds in operation – some tin, some wooden-framed. This allows me to leave a grow bed fallow (unplanted) or plant a green-manure crop – but I’ll tell you all about that and also how I achieve non-toxic pest control using companion planting the next time we discuss the fascinating and rewarding adventure we call organic gardening.

How exactly does buying wedding rings work?

Grace1228 asked:

My fiance and I are getting married in 2 years but are starting to plan now. I was wondering how exactly the wedding rings get purchased. Do we go out together and pick a set and buy them, or do we pick out each others and buy them separatly? Do they sell two-piece sets? I’ve seen a lot of three piece sets that include the engagement ring, but I’ve already got that. Any advice? Thanks

Handmade Christmas Gifts Your Family Will Love

David Barnes asked:

There are many types of gifts to give for Christmas to your family, but the greatest gift you can give is one that you have made yourself. It is a gift that will be cherished for years to come because you loved them enough to give the gift of your talents and time. Even if your not the most creative, or already have a developed hobby that you can do easily, you can still make a handmade gift if you start early enough to learn how to do it. Children can make wonderful crafts that anyone will love in the family. There is no limit on the different types of gifts you can make, and knowing the different choices are easy once you know how to theme it.

Anyone in the family that loves the comfy soft side of rest and relation will find useful gifts of the material type. Handmade pillows and quilts make great and useful gifts. If they love themed subjects, such as lighthouses, dogs, food or even steam engines, you can embroider or cross stitch interesting designs onto pillows for the couch or bed. Quilts can be a real heirloom because they can be any patch work design, or tailored to fit the interest of a family member. Young girls can put away a quilt for the hope chest with a wedding ring or flower design for their future home or apartment. Younger children whether boy or girl can be immediately enthralled with a homemade train set or wooden blocks. Little girls love to play house and a handy mom or dad might want to consider buying a precut dollhouse and assembling it before Christmas day. Later the girl in your life might love to go along with you to the hobby store to theme her home with the furniture and other necessities, such as curtains and little people.

Other types of gifts for the different family members need to include parents and grandparents. Depending on the age of the children they can make some sure fire popular gifts that will please mom. Dad can help a child by providing guidance and the supplies on a themed gift for mom and vice versa. A mom can certainly use any of the pampered gifts that a child could make. For example, a gift basket of mom’s favorite interests would be appropriate, such as candles and scented gift sachets for her clothing drawers, or even a collection of wrapped flavored coffees would make her smile too. A lot of moms like new recipes hand written or typed, and a child can paint and decorate a lovely recipe box that will make a busy mom very happy. Dads also appreciate hand made gifts, and mom and child can theme a gift for them too around their work or hobbies. Creating a personalized book on the computer for a dad that likes sports such as golf is a real keepsake for dad. Ideas and patterns can be used for dad to have his own homemade wooden jewelry chest from the child he loves. Wooden engraving sets can be found at hobby or discount stores such as K Mart. Lovingly engraving their initials or a pattern of their profession makes a nice gift to give from a child.

Grandparents are some of the easiest family members to make a gift for at Christmas time. If they live away they certainly appreciate any gift that they can display to show off, but even close by grand parents still cherish those gifts too. A family collaboration on homemade gifts can be items such as photo frames engraved and a new picture tucked inside, or children can make grand parents jewelry with craft products. Lovely pieces made with beads for grandmothers necklace or bracelet, and for a grand father handmade tie tacks, cuff links, or lapel pin will make him feel very dressed up for the holidays or anytime. Grand parents always love it when a scrap book is made by grand children, and they never get tired of admiring it either.

What ever gift you decide to make for your loved ones this Christmas season you will not go wrong in making it, even if there are a few blips when it is finished. The holidays are a time for giving the gift of love, and also for making a lot of precious memories and keepsakes that will be passed down from one generation to the next. Take the time to make a new tradition of giving hand made gifts not only this Christmas but for the years to come - you won’t regret it.

Wedding Rings Go Platinum

Michelle Davis asked:

In the wedding market there is a trend that is leaving behind wedding traditions and going places

where weddings have never gone before. You can see dress styles changing faster than a super

model can fit into an elegant gown. Cakes are cutting loose, and brides are abandoning tradition

for the new and contemporary looks.

Wedding rings are no exception, and although most wedding rings were made of gold, according

to tradition, now wedding rings are getting a new look. Instead of the traditional gold wedding

rings, there are now more and more couples that are going platinum with their wedding ring

choices. There are various reasons that new brides and grooms are choosing platinum wedding

rings.

Simple Elegance

One reason that many couples are deciding to go with platinum wedding rings is because of their

modern, chic look that speak of simple elegance. These rings have a great sparkle to them and

they stay looking great for many years, as well. Platinum is a great choice in wedding rings

because it can easily withstand daily tasks like cleaning the house, being in water, and even some

of the more rough, rigorous jobs that men deal with. If you are marrying a man that does heavy

labor with his hands, platinum is a great choice.

Another reasons that many people choose platinum wedding rings is to avoid allergies. Some

people have allergies to metals such as gold and silver and may not be able to wear rings

containing those metals, but platinum rarely causes any allergic reaction in humans. If you want

to avoid having allergy problems with your wedding rings, then, once again, platinum is the best

choice.

Go in Style

While you may think that platinum wedding rings only come in a few styles, this is not true.

There are many different styles of platinum wedding rings that you can choose from. Whether

you are looking for wedding rings that are simple and elegant, or something that is a bit more

elaborate, more than likely, you can find what you want in a platinum ring.

Many women especially like platinum wedding rings because they look so wonderful with

diamonds. You can choose to have diamonds set in your wedding rings or you can just use them

to look great alongside your engagement ring. Either way hey make an excellent choice, and the

color of this metal plays up the beauty of a diamond. The only downside to buying platinum

wedding rings with diamonds is that they can be expensive, but when you consider that you will

be wearing these rings for your entire life, the price just may be worth it.

If you are getting married in the new future, you should consider platinum wedding rings for your

big day. They are the newest trend in wedding rings, and they provide a look that is elegant and

timeless. Platinum is a metal that will never go out of style, so make a great choice and choose

platinum wedding rings for you and your groom.

Wedding Rings-the Symbol of Love

Mishel Smith asked:

Now that you have decided to tie the knot, the most important question is the kind of wedding ring that will symbolize the marital status of the couple. Wedding rings have always been a symbol of everlasting love between the couple. It’s strange to know that though women have been wearing wedding rings for eons, men started wearing it only recently, since the Second World War to be precise.

It’s important to decide upon the type of wedding band the man wants to wear, as this might be the only piece of jewelry that he may wear in his lifetime. So a myriad of decisions have to be made before selecting the perfect wedding band for the man.

Firstly, the ring should match the personality of the individual wearing it. While choosing a men’s wedding band, its important to consider his personality- is he flamboyant or conservative? Does he revel in the public eye or he prefers to blend in with the crowd? If the man is outgoing, he may prefer a ring that is incorporated with precious stones or metals that attracts attention and clearly states the fact that he can afford it. However if the man is conservative, he may prefer a simple wedding band, not too overt, but a band that simply states the fact that he is married.

Then there’s the question of the kind of metal chosen for the ring. Traditionally, there are the gold, silver or diamond metals to choose from. However, the modern man has a myriad of other metals to choose from. Platinum is very appealing for its durability and the sheen it develops over a period of time. Titanium wedding rings are also very popular as it is light weight and has considerable strength.

For men who are looking for something really unique, there is the option of the traditional Celtic wedding band which is simple yet stylish. The unending knot style aptly symbolizes the endless and infinite love of the man for his wife. For the more adventurous, there are the rings having the Zodiac signs and gambling symbols like the roulette wheel with numbers! Nowadays, it is also possible to have the men’s wedding bands custom made whereby one can choose the width, the style, the metal or combination of metals, the gemstone to be incorporated etc and have the kind of ring as one desires.

So, there being no dearth of the styles to choose from, choose the wedding ring you want to wear that expresses your individuality and your love for your wife.

Conclusion:

Wedding rings have a very important role in our wedding. Celtic wedding band gives every type of wedding rings in many metals online.

Why do the tree rings and bark of a tree show greater thickness in the part that faces North and Northeast?

Celtic Wedding Rings and tying the Knot

John Lewis asked:

The origins of the Celts dates back to prehistoric times when they emerged as a group of loosely knit tribes with a common culture and language.

Celtic settlements stretched from Turkey and the Balkans right across Western Europe. But it was the rise of the Roman Empire that would expose the lack of cohesion between the various Celtic tribes and would lead to them being overrun, expelled from their territories and being pushed back to the western fringes of the continent.

Although the ancient Celts flourished across Europe, it is in Ireland where their traditions have been most preserved.

One aspect of this culture that still survives today is the artwork and this is most commonly seen in jewellery such as celtic wedding rings.

Their artwork was believed to be very symbolic often being based on nature using images of birds and animals and fish. The Celts believed firmly in the interconnectedness of all life and produced the familiar Celtic Knots, which are interlaced patterns with no beginning and no end.

Although perhaps the true significance of these patterns has been lost over the millennia, Celtic designs remain increasingly popular in our modern world.

The Claddagh is a traditional symbol of love and friendship and is thought to have originated from Claddagh in Galway as far back as the 16th century since when has been worn by many as a wedding ring and as a symbol of love.

The design of the Claddagh consists of a heart as a symbol of love, a crown as a symbol of fidelity or loyalty and the hands depicted friendship. Tradition states that if you are spoken to you should wear the Claddagh on your left hand facing inward but if you are unattached it should be worn facing outward on the right hand.

Celtic crosses, which predate Christianity, can symbolize the four quarters of the earth and or the four elements — earth wind and fire. They are equal armed crosses which are enclosed or backed by a circle. Following the introduction of Christianity, it became more common to see Celtic Crosses on top of a matching pedestal, which gave it a more elongated look. Celtic crosses are often worn as jewellery such as rings or on chains around the neck.

Geometric designs have always feature prominently in Celtic artwork with spirals, chevrons, scrolls and knot work. Many of these patterns can be seen decorating stone carvings or ancient manuscripts and religious books.

The Celtic spirals are very symbolic with the single spiral generally thought to signify growth expansion and cosmic energy.

The dual centred spiral found often on stone carvings signifies duality and nature and is associated with motifs from other cultures such as the Ying Yang symbol.Celtic knot work designs remain popular today and can vary from single elegant knot patterns to complex intricate interlaced patterns.

Although the symbolism of celtic designs may have been lost, many of the designs remain popular today and will often be seen used in the design of jewellery and in particular Celtic Wedding rings.

Why do you eat veal?

G asked:

Access Farm Sanctuary Research Report,
The Welfare of Calves in Veal Production

Click here for more information about Veal Production

Veal is a by-product of the dairy industry. In order for dairy cows to produce milk, they must be impregnated and give birth. Half of the calves born are female, and they are used to replace older cows in the milking herd. The other half are male, and because they are of no use to the dairy industry, most are used for beef or veal.

Within moments of birth, male calves born on dairies are taken away from their mothers and loaded onto trucks. Many are sold through auction rings where they are subjected to transportation and handling stresses. The fragile animals are shocked and kicked, and when they can no longer walk, they are dragged by their legs or even their ears.

Every year, approximately one million calves are confined in crates measuring just two feet wide. They are chained by the neck to restrict all movement, making it is impossible for them to turn around, stretch, or even lie down comfortably. This severe confinement makes the calves’ meat “tender” since the animals muscles cannot develop.

Published scientific research indicates that calves confined in crates experience “chronic stress” and require approximately five times more medication than calves living in more spacious conditions. It is not surprising then, that veal is among the most likely meat to contain illegal drug residues which pose a threat to human health.

Researchers have also reported that calves confined in crates exhibit abnormal coping behaviors associated with frustration. These include head tossing, head shaking, kicking, scratching, and stereotypical chewing behavior. Confined calves also experience leg and joint disorders and an impaired ability to walk.

In addition to restricting the animals’ movement, veal producers severely limit what their animals can eat. The calves are fed an all liquid milk-substitute which is purposely deficient in iron and fiber. It is intended to produce borderline anemia and the pale colored flesh fancied by ‘gourmets’. At approximately sixteen weeks of age, these weak animals are slaughtered and marketed as “white” veal (also known as “fancy”, “milk-fed”, “special fed”, and “formula fed” veal). Besides the expensive veal which comes from calves who are kept in small wooden crates, “bob” veal is the flesh of calves who may be slaughtered at just a few hours or days old. While these calves are spared intensive confinement, they are still subjected to inhumane transport, handling, and slaughter, and many die before reaching the slaughterhouse.

Was Atlantis Located On Santorini?

Kenneth Mccormick asked:

When we talk about Atlantis, which we have talked about many times before, we have to think of an advanced people. It is amazing, everything that many of the ancient Greeks talked about seems to be historic and not fiction. Atlantis has not been found yet, but after examining Santorini and some of the surrounding islands I have reached the conclusion that Atlantis must have been in this area. I didn’t actually go to these places, although I would have loved to. I examined these places by research, using my trusty dual core computer. Some of you surely are asking yourselves, why in the world would I pick an area like this and make such a bold statement about it? It is very simple, Santorini seems to have been way more advanced 3,500 years ago than anywhere else and it was struck by a disaster of tremendous proportions that fits the Atlantis tale.

The islands I am talking about were part of the Minoan civilization and I believe that it was the Minoans that were the Atlantians. The main island was formed directly over a volcano. As the pressure increased, it had no where to go and the volcano exploded taking much of the main island with it. It was on this main island that it is believed existed the circular canals and central city of the Minoan empire. Plato stated that the Atlantians had constructed canals in a ring pattern with a straight canal running through the rings right to the main part of the city. This allowed ships to transverse the canals easily and enter and exit the sea. The volcano that was under the ancient city has built itself up again and many feel that it is getting ready to blow all over. Researchers state that the original explosion was ten times greater than the explosion at Krakatoa. On August 25, 1883, Krakatoa exploded four times. The blast was equivalent to 100 megatons of TNT. As I said, the blast at Atlantis (if you agree this was Atlantis) must have been equal to 1000 megatons of TNT. As with Krakatoa, it has been determined that the surrounding islands were subject to horrible tsunamis, that were caused by material falling into the ocean.

When it was discovered that way more ash had covered some of the islands than first suspected, deeper excavations began. Then an astounding discovery was made, an entire town was uncovered. Before I go on to describe the town, I want you to keep in mind that this town was 3,500 years old and existed in a time when most people lived in huts. One archeologist commented that she didn’t realize that when she was walking inside of a house, that she was actually on the third floor, the rest of the house hadn’t been dug out yet. To her amazement and the amazement of the rest of the world, the town was comprised of three and four story buildings. Not only that, but they had indoor plumbing and toilets. Something that was completely unheard of at the time. Could there be even greater discoveries to be made? Upon further examination it was found that the water pipes were of a mass manufactured design. they were sections of clay pipes that fit one into the other and the pipes circulated water throughout the entire building. The waste was flushed away by water and the toilets were constructed in such a manner that eliminated odor, since the flushing water would also siphon away the smell because of the waste pipe design. It is very scary to see the town, except for the lack of glass in the windows, it looks very modern.

The temples were of stone construction with many of them being made to be earthquake proof. This was accomplished by having a heavy wooden frame constructed that contained a heavy beam which would cut across the frame horizontally every 4 courses or so of stone blocks holding them tight while the entire wall was wedged between two standing beams at both ends. This made the walls very strong. Floating staircases rose as high as four stories, resembling those seen in a modern apartment building. They would go straight up, have a landing, then turn and travel up again to the next landing until they hit a floor, then they would continue. A system of shutters and room dividers was constructed that would allow light to penetrate even the most central of rooms and would also direct an air flow anywhere in the building. This was not just a temple, it was a very well designed building that would have made today’s architects proud.

It is unfortunate that even a heavy stone building, such as the temple above, could not resist the giant tsunamis which carried huge pieces of debris that battered the temple walls and destroyed most of it. Some speculation states that since the temple was the most solid building in the area, it is felt that the people might have entered it for safety purposes when the explosions started. Little did they know that nothing would offer them safety, not even the solid walls of their temples.

Where did these people get their technology? Why were they so advanced? I guess one could say that since they traded with the entire world, it may be that they incorporated every good idea that they found into their civilization. I don’t know if this is true or not, but I figure that this is as good a guess as any. It is hard to believe that the homes of these people were much like the homes in cities today. They would go out to work, come home, climb up to their second, third or fourth floor apartment, wash up, maybe use the toilet, then eat and relax. Bed frames were found from the town and they look just like a modern bed frames.

Some archeologists think that many of the survivors of the Minoan disaster took up residence in ancient Egypt. It might be that they lent their considerable building talents to many of the pharaoh’s construction projects.

Was this Atlantis, can we swear to it? No we can’t, but it certainly is one of the best candidates.

Santorini is a Greek Island. The eruption in 1,650 B.C. was one of the largest eruptions on earth in the last 10,000 years. It was so large that it dumped 7 cubic miles of material into the atmosphere. Scientists think that the pillar of plasma, at the time of the eruption, reached 23 miles into the air. This eruption was the probable cause of the end of the Minoan civilization on Crete. When Akroteri, another Minoan city that had an estimated population of 30,000 was examined, no bodies were found, indicating a successful evacuation. The city is buried in ash.

Traditional Indian Jewellery

Indian Handicrafts asked:

Antonio – You never told me you want pearls!!

Catherine – Do I have to mention that women love jewelries? Its like asking for an approval that the sun rises in the east!!

A discourse from “The Legend of Zorro”, that re-establishes a well known fact once again, that jewelries are close to every feminine heart.

Reshuffling and reversing the pages of history would lead us to the origin of the traditional Indian fashion jewellery. But the right point of start is still a mere blur. The story of Indian fashion jewelry can be dated back to the Vedic era. The holy Ramayana and the Mahabharata are replete with descriptions of ornaments worn by both men and women of that age. Infact even before the discovery of metals Indians are said to have adorned themselves with wooden jewelries and other materials which are easily available. To talk about civilization, Harappa and Mohenjodaro civilization bears evidence of Indian fashion jewelry. By the 3rd century B.C. India became the leading exporter of gemstones, and that was a benchmark in the history of Indian jewelry.

During the ancient ages Indian Gods and Goddesses are crafted with rich and ornate temple jewelry, a trend still existent. Eventually those intricate filigree designs of Indian jewelry were being sported with by the women folk and it got absorbed into the bridal trousseau and worn on special occasions. The traditional Indian jewelry could be branched into three categories – spiritual, bridal wear and temple jewelry. But with the flow of time all of them merged into one and took the form of Indian fashion jewelry.

Indian fashion jewelry was given a royal patronage from the ancient times. But it reached its highest peak during the Mughal era. Men usually are the goldsmiths in India, traditionally, and a variety of names were given to them as per the region they belong to.

Fashion jewelry in India is being made for almost every part of the body, ranging from the ‘tika’ for the forehead to the ring for the toe, a testimony to the love of jewelry and to the splendid skills of the Indian jewelers. In a broader aspect, jewelry in India was being handcrafted not only for humans but also for the ceremonial elephants and horses.

In the modern era Indian fashion jewelry is creating a new history for itself. Indian fashion jewelry is a rage among the recent generation and despite the tag of ‘feminine’ being attached to jewelry, both guys and gals are sporting with funky and traditional Indian jewelry. Be it the bold thumb rings or the sleek ear and nose rings, be it purely ethnic or purely funky Indian fashion jewelry is gearing its speed, expanding its domain at its best.

The common motifs in the traditional Indian jewelry were inspired by mythology and despite the fickle dictates fashion they remain essentially the same today. However, modern Indian jewelers are experimenting with a wide range of design, representing many things – love of nature and animals, spiritual beings, history, humor…..imagination at its best.

An important landmark in the history of Indian fashion jewelry is the expansion of the domain of raw materials used in its making. Besides gold and other metal jewelry, jute, beads, stones, conch shells, wood, plant seeds, etc are also used in the making of Indian fashion jewelry. These are setting a new trend in the modern fashion scenario…..befitting jewelries with the kind of attire you put on, be it funky or traditional.

Indian fashion jewelry is much more than just a tool of aesthetic appeal: rather it is a symbol of divine abundance and material blessings, tinged with fashion, updated with each passing day. A trend that started at the beginning of the civilization, may be at a more remote past, has been going strong till date and will definitely create new ripples in the near future with some more fusions, bifurcations, improvisations and new imaginations…..a new history of Indian fashion jewellery on the making.

A Few Tips on Caring for your Diamond Wedding Ring

Clyde Lee Dennis asked:

If you want your wedding ring to remain a beautiful and sparkling gem for many years to come, the best time to start thinking about it’s care is before you even receive it. There are many things you should consider in this process. Here are just a few.

You must realize that your wedding ring is in fact an investment and as such probably needs a little more care. The stone in your ring could and should last a lifetime, and even though diamonds are among the hardest compounds in the universe appropriate care must still be taken.

There are specific ways you should clean your ring. As you probably know like all jewelry rings tend to get dirty just one day to wear and must be cleaned. What you might not know is that even the oils in the skin can have a detrimental effect on the cleanliness of your ring. A simple method you can use to keep your own ring clean is giving it a bath mild soap. To do this all you need to do is to use a soft brush to remove loose particles. Bearing in mind this is not something you want to do even around a sink. Sewers and jewelry are just a bad mixture.

Another method that you can use to clean your wedding or engagement ring, it is soaked in a solution of ammonia and cold water. It’s a good idea to let it soak for about half an hour. If you don’t want to mix your own cleaning solution you should know there are some fantastic wedding cleaning solutions on the market. You want to follow the instructions given with the use of these chemicals and to be careful not to touch the wedding with your fingers. Doing so defeats your purpose by transferring the oil from your fingertips onto the diamond. It’s a good idea to get into the habit of always handling your diamond rings by the edges.

You should also remember to remove your rings and other jewelry, when you do heavy work. Although diamonds are fairly robust they can still be scratched.

These are just a few tips, you may wish to keep in mind when caring for your diamond wedding ring.

Custom Design Your Wedding Ring With Tips From A Pro

Andy Moquin asked:

Once you receive your engagement ring you may spend hours staring at it while dreaming about a wedding ring and how it should fit. There are amazing engagement ring styles being made today and some of them come with wonderful matching wedding rings however, many don’t. I’ve seen couples travel from jewelry store to jewelry store in search of a perfect wedding band only to be disappointed when they realize that nothing fits properly with their ring. When they stumble upon a jeweler that can provide a custom designed wedding band they find it difficult to make a decision. This is largely due to the jewelers inability to provide a life-like sample or illustration of how the ring is going to look when its finished. Most people have a difficult time visualizing conceptual items like custom jewelry because they don’t know what to expect and also because the design is in the jeweler’s mind not theirs.

An experienced and professional custom jeweler will have the skills needed to provide a detailed account of how your ring will look. In addition, he/she should be a good communicator while assessing your needs and transferring those needs in to the actual jewelry design. Without proper translation of your wants and desires the ring may not be everything you dreamed of and a good custom jeweler will understand this. Bottom line is this…Great wedding rings are created not by great jewelers but also great communicators. When selecting a craftsman to make your wedding ring, examine the person’s portfolio of previous work, but also take note of how you both work together. If you have good synergy and communicate well together then you’ll have a better chance of getting an amazing wedding ring that you’ll be happy with.

Another important variable is the person doing the assembly of your custom wedding ring; the person designing your ring may not be the person making it. The designer that you work with could do a wonderful job creating a concept for your item but the jeweler making it could be a poor craftsman or bad interpreter of your designer’s concept. If the designer isn’t the person making your ring then you should get a feel for how the two work together. Ask to meet the craftsman and have a joint discussion to determine if everyone is on the same page. While we are on the subject of the craftsman, make sure that the jeweler actually assembling the ring can provide examples of his craftsmanship. A jeweler without adequate experience in custom jewelry design may set diamonds poorly or weld metal improperly. This can result in a finished product that doesn’t look good or you could receive a ring with a history of problems like stone loss from its setting. There are credentials that help determine how qualified a jeweler is at making custom jewelry. One such credential is the Jewelers of America (JA) Master Jeweler program. A person that is certified by JA to be a “Master Jeweler” is certainly the most qualified person for the job and you can be rest assured that he has been tested in all areas of jewelry making.

The next thing you should understand is how the jewelry is actually made. When making custom jewelry, the designer will of course first create a concept for you. Once you feel comfortable with the design a counter sketch or illustration is given to a model maker along with your ring. The model maker will carve a wax prototype of your prospective wedding ring design based on these counter sketches. This model maker should take in account all the design elements that are important to you while providing a ring that best compliments your engagement ring and its specific features. It’s always a really good thing when a model maker can identify things about your engagement ring that make it special. He/she can then re-create those special features in your design; this will make the two rings look like they were made for each other from the start. Special features can include methods of diamond setting, precious metal types, profiles, heights, widths, etc. The wax prototype should be used for two purposes, the first is a sample that you can try on or rest next to your engagement ring. This prototype will be very useful because it will give you a very good idea of how the wedding band will look when it is finished. If you’re not happy with the original design or you would like to make changes it shouldn’t be a problem because the ring isn’t made yet, it’s just a wax model.

After the appropriate changes are made and you approve the final prototype, a jeweler will make mold of the wax. The prototype wax is placed in a flask and filled with plaster. Once the plaster hardens, the flask is placed in an oven and the wax model is burned out of the flask leaving a cavity in the exact impression of your design. The flask is then injected with molten metal and once the metal cools the plaster is broken away leaving you with a casting of the jewelry design. This casting is filed, polished and then the final assembly process begins.

Another thing to look for is the use of new technologies when creating your custom wedding ring design. The best example of this is 3D Computer Aided Design or otherwise known as CAD design. Recent advances in this arena have allowed for amazing possibilities when designing jewelry. CAD software is used to create a computer model of the design and then is sent to a CNC (computer numerical control) mill that cuts the wax in a very precise manner. The benefit of CAD design is the capability to create very precise jewelry designs that are for more accurate than a hand-carved wax model. In the end, the precision of the CAD wax allows for much more intricate design capabilities and also finer quality assembly. The CAD models can also be rendered using graphical interfaces such as Flamingo3D, which use both raytracing and radiosity to make a life-like illustration of the design. This computer rendering is far more useful in depicting your design then a drawing scribbled on scratch paper.

Currently, only a handful of jewelers are using 3D CAD design technology and this is due to the high cost of the software, equipment, and training. You should however, check with your local jeweler or do an Internet search to see who is available to use this technology. Whenever possible, choose the person that employs the use of 3D CAD because you’ll get a better quality product. You can learn more about this process and viewed at http://www.rokstok.com. Keep in mind that not all jewelers using 3D CAD are automatically qualified to make your wedding ring. You still need to qualify them just as you would a person that is using traditional techniques to make your item. In the end, the best way to go about your design is to screen the people making your item and assess their communication skills to determine if they understand your needs.

The Pros and Cons of Inexpensive Engagement Wedding Rings

Pierre Smith asked:

Many people always think that when buying a jewel ring for their engagement or wedding, is the price and how expensive it is. That will max out your credit card limit and drain all your savings, this notions are not true, In fact, there are many inexpensive engagement wedding rings out there, for you and your partner to choose from that will not break the bank. That will definitely match your taste and style. Couples have plenty of reason why they opt to choose inexpensive engagement wedding rings, some prefer to save for their future house or budget their money for their wedding or honeymoon, pay down debts, or other financial needs.

Also for some, the practicality of wearing a big engagement ring or wedding ring might be an issue, like it may be damaged in everyday activities and chores are some of the reasons why women opted to have inexpensive engagement wedding rings. Some more practical would be couples believe that the true meaning of love is not how big your engagement ring or wedding ring is. What matters is the significance of the ring.

Whatever their reasons are, couples who are interested in purchasing inexpensive engagement wedding rings have many options to choose from. Without sacrificing their sense of style and preference. They may opt to buy a high quality cubic zirconia, this stones are like diamonds it takes a real jeweler to identify it as a cubic zirconia, not the diamond, and birthstones are nice to have as in your engagement ring or wedding ring. It will give you a unique and stunning ring or just plain and simple gold, platinum or silver. For these precious metals, the size and thickness of the bands are taken into consideration. Some has an engraved stones on it. This signifies the eternity of the matrimony.

You can choose diamond or your birthstones to be engraved in your rings. If you think that, this is only plain simple rings. Then think again, there are hundreds of designs to choose from and the designs are endless. You can choose from two-toned rings, these are a combination of white and gold and yellow gold, carved or hand crafted rings it may come in two-toned or gold and silver, engraved with stones, or the classic designs. There are many designs to choose from just check out jewelry stores which are offering a sale and just shop around so that you could compare prices and make of the rings, so that you could find the best deal that will suit your budget and taste.

True loves is not about having the biggest and expensive rings and later on burden you with payment after the wedding. There are more ways to show your love one that she is special. The ring is a sign of your endless and undying love and affection to your partner it should not be gauged how big is the stone in your ring or how much you paid for that ring. What matter are the thought and what the ring signifies to both of you.

Gay Marriages and Wedding Rings

Suneva S asked:

“The soul is a circle.” – Plato

Plato made this statement many centuries ago, but its significance is just as profound today when you think of it in relation to the wedding ring. Probably no other ring ever created has been surrounded with as much folklore and tradition as the ring that unites the hearts of two people.  *** marriages and wedding rings both represent the magic of love and freedom. Once this magical spark has been lit, love naturally evolves into commitment pledged with a wedding ring.

For two people who want to exchange vows of devotion in a *** marriage, the history supporting the role of the wedding ring in the ceremony is bound to the magical symbol of the unbroken circle, which the Egyptians described as “without beginning, without end.” This statement describes the essence of the quality that the wedding rings impart to the celebration of *** marriage: a bond of love between two people that is timeless.

Just as much of nature expresses itself in this shape; our bodies systems as well are attuned to the circle. The wedding ring in *** marriage brings with it all of the mystical power of its circular shape.

A ring can be worn on any finger: the choice of which hand and which finger is the best one to use has changed over time. During the *** marriage ceremony, the wedding ring placed on the third finger of the left hand provides strength and grounds the emotions.

As the reality of the fact that love knows no gender becomes more widely known, it is only natural that jewelers from around the world have begun crafting wedding rings especially for *** marriages with meticulous care in the adorning the circle  with symbols of *** pride.

In the ceremony of *** marriage the wedding rings carry a deeper meaning; for *** marriage expresses the unbound generosity of love: it is free of blind spots. While there are many who consider *** marriage a “completion” of their love for one another, many others feel that the celebration begins a completely new chapter in their relationship.

Wedding rings in the celebration of *** marriage can be ornate, encrusted with jewels such as diamonds or pink sapphires or a simple band or two of precious metal such as titanium, sterling silver, gold or platinum. Some couples prefer ethnic designs such as Native American which are well loved for their extensive use of turquoise, the gemstone that denotes good fortune.

In addition to *** pride symbols, the use of culturally derived symbols for instance, the Celtic love knot design and the Irish Claddagh, which shows two hands clasping a heart to stylize a ring are also very popular.

As the emotion of love is universally understood, the way wedding rings are designed adds to their significance in binding two people in the union of *** marriage. Indeed, the exchanging of vows and wedding rings are the moments in the ceremony that are best remembered by the coupe throughout their years of marriage.

Would a *** marriage ceremony be the same without the wedding ring? Is a tangible item required to show our devotion to our partners? This is not the fundamental significance of the wedding ring: it is much more than this. It seals the oath between the two people in the union and gives the witnesses to the *** marriage evidence of the commitment that was made.

As you plan your *** marriage celebration and begin to think about the design of wedding rings that will best express your sentiments, be sure to review the selections from the many designers who specialize in creating *** pride jewelry for this most special celebration.

Does it matter which way a woman wears her engagement and wedding rings?

The reason why I’m asking here is because one of the girls where I volunteered just came back from getting married and her honeymoon. Was wearing the her rings the opposite of how my mom wears and told me. She told me that another girl told her that if you wear the wedding ring closer to you, not sure what the reason.

Thank you in advance for helping me with me.

Decorating Ideas With Window Treatments

Melisa Verch asked:

Whether your dream room is formal and filled with fabulous antiques or if it  is cozy and sporting worn leather, you can complete the vision with carefully planned window treatments.

Privacy, protection from the sun and energy efficiency rank high on the list  of consumer needs for their windows. Blinds and shutters will provide this practical layer of window treatments. Purchase the best that your budget will  allow because constant opening and closing will wear on the mechanisms that work these coverings.

Let the (Partial) Sun Shine In

Often we want to enjoy the sun streaming into our home or the view of the trees outside our window but we still want the privacy of a covered window. The solution is installing shades with the top down/bottom up feature.

Simply put, they can be lifted from the bottom to give a view of the outside world but still allowing the lower half of the window to be covered. When  privacy is not a concern, they can be used as traditional horizontal blinds.

Top Down / Bottom Up Shades

I recommend these for your office or media room because they will minimize  the glare on your computer or television while maintaining a well lit room.

Do not underestimate the damage sun can do to your home and furnishings.  Window film can also be used to control the harmful UV rays that will fade your flooring, furniture and artwork.

This coating placed directly on the window panes will block out the heat and  deflect glare while allowing sunlight to safely come through the window. You can  purchase do it yourself kits or have it professional done.

Clothes For Your Windows

Now it is time to think about the fun layer of window dressing. A room looks  complete when you add great treatments. What is the style of your room? What  will it look like from the outside? Do you want them stationary or  functional?

Panels

Panels are as popular now as when your mother was decorating her home. The difference is the variety in headers.

* Grommets create a modern vibe. The panel has metal rings along the top that  threads on to your rod. They look best when used in areas they can remain stationary.

* Pinch pleats are strong in the custom treatment business. The most popular look is to hang them from metal or wooden rings. This look works well if you  want to open and close your curtains often.

* Tab tops are fun for casual rooms. The tabs can be of different colors, have added buttons or be adorned with tassels. They should be used on windows that you do not need to close the curtains.

Valances

Valances are strong in window treatment decor. They add a finished look over your blinds by hiding the mechanical header. Hang them high enough so that they cover the top casing but they do not block the sun streaming into your window.  There are so many styles of valances from box pleats to swags. Let your fabric design and the style of your room guide you on choosing the perfect valance.

Enter The Romans

My young clients seem to be drawn to roman shades. They can be easily lower when privacy is needed. When raised, they create a tailored look that works well in so many homes. They look great in a crisp cotton as well as a raw silk.

Window Treatment Crazy? Seek Professional Help

If you have a hard time visualizing the end results, choosing decorative window treatments can be daunting. A designer specializing in windows will take  you step by step through the process. They will give you access to resources  (fabrics, hardware, specialized blinds) that you would not be able to buy at  your local big box store. They will also help protect you from costly mistakes.

What kind of window treatments do I have in my upstairs office? Well, looking  at my windows I see delicate wispy strands of silk like material. Even though  the design is intricate and somewhat pretty, I think it is time to knock those  spider webs down! Until next time, enjoy more decorating ideas and video at my site below.

Peter Gabriel - The Book Of Love

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It’s full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing

But I

And you
You can read me anything

The book of love has music in it
In fact that’s where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb

But I
I love it when you sing to me
And you
You can sing me anything

The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It’s full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we’re all too young to know

But I
I love it when you give me things
And you
You ought to give me wedding rings

And I
I love it when you give me things
