How do I identify a recently purchased traditional drum - wooden with animal skin head held in place by cords?
Ray S asked:
I purchased a traditional wooden african-looking drum that sits 2 feet high and looks like a pot on a pedestal. The base of the pedestal is about 9 inches and the diameter of the drum head covering the “pot” top is 14 inches. The drum head is held in place with an arrangements of heavy black cords that connect covered metal (?) rings around the drum head and and lower down the “pot”. I would appreciate knowing what you think the name of such a drum is but I would also like to know how I can research such drums - pictures, histories, etc.. Any good websites or groups?
