Need to install a lock on my lateral, wooden file cabinet. How to do it? ?

I have a filing cabinet that I now need to install a lock on. I have had it for some time, so I no longer have the directions that came with it. So I am not quite sure how to install one piece of the lock.

The lock comes with a metal ring that has two spikes sticking out on one side. This ring appears to be what holds the lock in place to prevent it from spinning right or left when you turn the key. The spikes that stick out, seem like they are supposed to stick in the cabinet so that it holds in place. When I try to stick it in the wood though, the spikes are not the right size. It is not quite big enough to cover the hole. So one side slips in the hole and the other is on the side of it.

Does anyone have one of these file cabinets, and if so can you please help me out?

Thanks

  1. get the name off the lock and google it. I just googled” file cabinet locks” and saw several . you my be missing a part or the hole is too large for that lock. , good luck
