Sudden rash appeared under wedding rings?
APRYLL asked:
I have been wearing my wedding rings for nearly four years. The last two weeks there is a small rash underneath them on one side of my finger only. Like several tiny pin-sized blisters that are red and irritated. Could I possibly be having an alergic reaction to the white gold after nearly 4 years? There is not a rash like that anywhere else.

are they not 14 karat? of maybe water is getting under and you are not drying properly.

I have had that happen to me before…if it gets too uncomfortable, take them off for a few days…otherwise, it should go away on its own. I think it has something to do with your skin staying moist under the ring all the time.. better yet..try just taking them off at night.

You could try and air the area out for a few weeks.
Maybe some water of hand cream got under there and has caused irritation.
Good luck.
If that doesn’t help , see a dermatologist.

maybe you should go have a doctor check it to make sure it is nothing serious. or maybe it could be just the soap you us. but you always need to be on the safe side of things

You may not be getting all the soap and water out from under your ring when you bath or wash your hands. Are you using a new soap or new handcream? Make sure you dry the area completely and maybe use some antibiotic cream on your finger at night.

Yes you could have developed an allergy. White gold is plated over yellow gold and the plating could have worn down to a metal you can’t tolerate. But I would guess a bacterial infection - or even a fungus like athletes foot. One study said Hospital nurses have more bacteria under rings and artificial finger nails then any place else.

sounds like a bit of dermatitis. When you wash your hands with soap, a bit of soap may have stayed under the band and caused an irritation. (or a cleaning solution, or laundry detergent, ect.) Rinse the area really well, use a bit of cortisone cream a couple times a day for a few days and see if that doesn’t clear it up. If it doesn’t and the area continues to spread, probably time to see a dr.

My friend had the same thing happen.
It’s probably eczema brought on by soap being trapped under your rings when you wash your hands.

In addition to all the other good answers, I’d wonder if what often happens to me happened to you. Did you get gasoline in your car and accidentally slop some on your hand? Even if I try to just rinse that off…it will end up like you said. I have to use dishwashing detergent to remove gas from under my rings.
However there was a coworker that suddenly developed an allergy to his gold rings.

I am allergic to all metals with the exception of pure silver, sometimes i can wear my 14k gold ring and others I can not at all. It is very possible to have allergy to it. Those tiny pin sized blisters I get as well, only on my ears, neck, hands anywhere that is exposed to metal for to long. They are hives. Do they itch as well? Sometimes the skin under your rings just needs a rest, let your finger heal and then in a few days try again, if the same thing happens than it is 100% an allergy and not a bacteria that got under your ring. My grandfather had the same allergy but instead of getting hives the metal stripped ALL color from his skin and if he left his ring on too long eventually the hives would come. Best of luck, if it doesn’t clear up go see the doctor for allergy tests!
(sucks to have to always wear silver…)
