I would say go to Ebay. That’s where my fiance and I got our rings (he let me pick mine out since he knows squat about jewelry). I got a really nice princess cut diamond ring (lab diamond made in a lab, but not cubic zirconia - actual diamond with lasting qualities of the stone and same hardness but eco friendly as it is not mined from our Earth’s natural resources and then shipped accross the world) set in platinum plated silver for only $60! The center princess cut stone is 1.2 carats and there are 3 small baguette diamonds on either side…the wedding band (it came as a set) has matching baguette diamonds on it. They also have men’s rings for around $40. I chose the seller ExquisiteDesigners. Check it out! There’s a lot to choose from.

Definitely go to Wal-Mart. You don’t need a credit card and they have layaway with a small down payment. Target does not have layaway.
